Local Attractions
-
Chester Zoo
Award winning zoo that is constantly being updated. You can't see everything
in a day. Plenty of undercover exhibits when the weather is dodgy. A season
ticket is worth considering.
-
Blue Planet Aquarium
Ellesmere Port Junction 10, M53. Fish and reptiles exhibited in different
'environments'. Underwater walk way where you can see the sharks swimming
above you. About a 3/4 hour trip, depending on how many times your children
insist on doing the moving walk way.
-
Farm world, south of Wrexham off the A5152. One of many farm attractions.
Includes feeding the lambs, a mini tractor play area, ducks to feed, a
tractor ride around the farm and assault course.
- Erddig (National
Trust) South of Wrexham off the A5152. Upstairs/downstairs
house with 'hands on' sessions throughout the year. Photographic
record of the servants at the turn of the last (!) century.
Self contained garden, but there is a free country park at
the entrance to the lane leading to the house.
-
Bunbury Mill, sign posted off the A51 after the turning for Beeston
(coming from Chester). Open Wednesday and Sunday afternoons, small
charge for adults, but children are free. Restored working Mill in very
pituresque surroundings.
-
Beeston Castle. (English Heritage) Sign posted from the A51. Quite
a climb to the top, especially with a push chair, but the remains of the
caslte are spectacular, as is the view.
-
Greenfields Country Park, south of Holywell, follow signs for Heritage
Park. A selection of old farm buildings that have been reconstructed,
along with some farm animals ( watch those chickens run when a small child
appears with a paper bag of food!). Indoor play room and a good outdoor
play area with a short nature trail. Plenty to keep children interested
within a compact area. Basingwerk Abbey and a very reasonable tea shop
next door.
