Results of Tree Survey

Some emergency work was required earlier in the summer to clear away a few tree branches which were a danger to the public. Following that, Peter Murray, the Chester City Council tree officer carried out a survey of trees throughout the park, the results of which are presented here. The report gives us a good feel for the spread of trees throughout the park as well as a programme of work which will take place over the next few months.

The principles adhered to in doing the survey and compiling the work schedule comply with the City Council's Draft Tree Policy. Our own Mike O'Kell has been closely involved in preparing this document and would value our opinions during the consultation period.

The map shows the park divided into twelve areas, or compartments, according to the prevailing characteristics of the vegetation. The areas are colour coded with the table below the map which shows the main tree species in each part of the park together with the longer term action recommended.

Certain trees require more immediate attention. They are marked on the map with green squares (hover button), and if you pass the cursor over each square you will get more information about the work to be done. We expect these trees to be dealt with over the winter months.

Oak, Thorn, Willow, Ash, Birch, Sycamore, Elm, Norway Maple, Cherry, Alder, Rowan and Hazel
Compartment contains both formally landscaped area with planted trees and informal scrub area adjacent the stream. The area predominantly consists of Crack Willow particularly within the scrub areas, one or two specimens show signs of major and minor limb failure. This compartment may benefit from some Willow thinning operations at some point.
